My name is Jamal, and I’m a 17-year-old high school student from Brooklyn, soon to graduate. I’m also the founder of Hollow Eclipse, an apparel brand dedicated to raising awareness about mental health. Our custom-made clothing isn’t just about style and comfort—it carries a bigger message: your mental health matters.I created Hollow Eclipse because I know how easy it is to bottle up emotions out of fear of being judged. I want to change that. To me, mental health means having a safe space to express yourself, receiving support without shame, and learning to find peace within yourself. Through this brand, I want to remind people—especially young people like me—that they are not alone.But raising awareness isn’t enough. That’s why a portion of Hollow Eclipse’s sales will go toward funding free or low-cost mental health resources for NYC teenagers, such as therapy sessions, peer support groups, and wellness workshops. My vision is to use fashion not just to start conversations, but to create real access to the help young people need.
None of this would have been possible without the Ownership Is The Future program, which gave me the funding, resources, and mentorship to bring Hollow Eclipse to life. Thanks to their support, I’m turning my vision into reality—one piece of clothing, one conversation, and one step toward better mental health at a time.
